SUMMARY:Frontiersman Program at Chief Logan
DESCRIPTION:
Frontiersman Program at Chief Logan July 5-11

Please note that if a Scout is interested in attending\, full payment is due by the 29th of April in order to get the discounted rate!

Again this summer\, I am offering a special opportunity for some of our boys to complete the Chief Logan Frontiersman program. This will only be open to boys who meet the requirements listed below.

We will attend Chief Logan summer camp from July 5 – July 11. We will be camping in a fashion much more in line with the frontier program. This means that we will not be taking a lot of gear. We will not take the trailer on this trip. We will “pack” our gear from the parking lot to the campsite and not use vehicles to transport. The only exception will be tarps and poles for the dining flies and any gateway materials that we will need.

The price for camp will be $225 for the week. A deposit of $25 is due immediately and the balance is due by April 29th. Payments after April 29th will not be eligible for the early pay discount and will be $245.

Here are the Pioneer Requirements

 1. Be at least 12 years old *
2. Be at least First Class *
3. Obtain Permission from Scoutmaster *
4. Participate in camp service project approved by the Frontiersman Coun cil.
5. Complete the following Brownsea Island Skills
1. Earn Firem’n Chit *
2. Join 6 Knot Club and tie a Timber Hitch
3. Tie a Square\, Diagonal and Shear Lashing
4. Earn Totin’ Chip *
5. Start a fire using Flint &amp\; Steel\, Bow Drill\, Hot Spark or Magnifying Glass.
6. Identify 5 wild edible plants and explain to a Nature Staff member how each is prepared and eaten.
7. Know the Archery safety rules and shoot on the Action Archery Range.
8. Know and practice the Rifle Range safety rules.
9. Make your own primitive fishing gear and demonstrate to an Aquatics Staff Member how it is used.
10. Participate in a major group effort Pioneering Project with the Frontiersmen.
11. Make a Possibles Bag at Handicraft.
12. Participate in an overnight Frontiersman Rendezvous. You will need an improvised pack\, bedroll\, possibles bag and something to start a fire with (NO MATCHES OR LIGHTERS). DO NOT BRING FLASHLIGHTS!!!
13. Improvise a shelter using a poncho\, plastic sheet or natural ground cover and sleep in it.

All skills must be demonstrated with proficiency. They must be complete\, not just close. Do not expect an instructor to show you how to do something and then pass you off – You must do it yourself.

All skills must be signed off before 3PM Thursday or you will not be allowed to attend the rendezvous.

*Requirements marked with* must be completed prior to the week of camp.

All participants will be expected to complete requirements 5-9 prior to Tuesday dinner.

All participants must complete requirement 4 Tuesday after dinner.

All participants must complete requirement 10 Wednesday afternoon.

Requirements 12 &amp\; 13 will be completed during the Rendezvous which runs from Thursday at 3PM until Friday morning.

The skills in Requirement 13 must be demonstrated by Wednesday night.

Requirement 11 can be started once you have completed 8 of the first 10 requirements.

The goal here is to have all participants successfully complete all of the requirements and go on the Rendezvous on Thursday. This is not a simple task. It will take a great deal of effort and will test your ability to set goals and accomplish them. The program requires that you reach beyond the requirements of First Class and grow your skills and independence.

During the Rendezvous\, you will sleep in your improvised shelter in the woods overnight without a flashlight. You must be comfortable sleeping in this environment as there will be bugs\, possibly rain\, etc. If you are not comfortable sleeping without a tent\, then you may have difficulty sleeping that night.

All of the 2 adults who are planning to go are going on the Rendezvous. That means that if there are any boys who do not meet the requirements to go on the Rendezvous\, we will have to make arrangements to put them with another Troop from Thursday afternoon until Friday morning.

Anyone who already has a claw can go\, but will be required to go on the Rendezvous.

NOTE\: Merit Badge work will not be permitted unless you have demonstrated that you are executing your plan to complete the requirements. As soon as you complete all requirements except 10 &amp\; 12\, you will be permitted to work on merit badges and/or utilize the activities areas.

If you have any additional questions\, please contact Mr. Rosenbaum at 902-1293 or <a href=\\"mailto\:dayohmyboy@aol.com\\">dayohmyboy@aol.com.
